  I have read tons and tons of negative reviews about Sovereign Health and Dr. Sharma. It’s sad to me that positive experiences are not shared equally. It’s sad that our mentality thrives on only reporting what people have done “wrong” and not what’s being done “right”.
  
  My son’s story is not at all perfect, but neither is stabilization of a person with mental illness. If it were, there wouldn’t be people and families suffering because of it. Most of the therapies are hit or miss, trial and error. The components that make the journey bearable is empathy and compassion and a heart that is eager to find resolutions to this very difficult, heart wrenching illness. These are qualities I have found in Dr. Sharma. Not only by my interaction with him, but because of the life he lives traveling the world to make a difference. You can’t fake that!
  
  My son first spent 6 months at Sovereign in California. Living in Florida, that was THE MOST difficult decision I ever made. When he returned home, he did relapse and his illness left doctors here in my area at a loss for words. Their response to me was that he was a “mystery” and that my son needed longer term care.
  
  I remember my son telling me that he liked his stay at Sovereign in California, but his anxiety about flying and being away from home was too unbearable and my letting him go so far away again was not even an option for me.
  
  So, once again, I contacted Sovereign’s Dr. Sharma, begging him to help me get my son in to the facility here in my home town. It’s THE ONLY one like it in my area. This part of my story is about 4 months long, due to insurance rules, regulations and policies. I became frustrated to say the least, but knowing Dr. Sharma was going to bat for my son in the background was all the encouragement I needed to NOT GIVE UP. Periodically I would receive calls from Sovereign checking up on the progress stating that Dr. Sharma was “on a mission” and they were to “make it happen” for my son. Dr. Sharma and his team worked diligently with my sons doctors here, the facilities here and my insurance to ensure that my son did not slip through the cracks of this very broken insurance system. Believe me, unless you experience doors after doors slamming in your face, you can never understand how difficult it is to get the help so desperately needed.
  
  My son has now been at Sovereign, Fort Myers for a month. He is so happy and showing such progress. There are no words to describe the staff at Sovereign accurately. All I can say is that their demeanors are that of individuals who Absolutely LOVE their jobs! They are genuinely caring, compassionate, patient, loving and friendly. I have witnessed how they speak to the patients and I am blown away. They treat my son as I would. They use endearing words and affirmations. I am forever in debt to each one of them for their enormous hearts.
  
  The only concern my son has now is being discharged because he says he finally feels like he has friends and a reason to get up. He says the staff has become his family and although he misses his family, he would live there forever if he could.
  
  These are the kind of encouraging stories I wish I could have read. I am just grateful that I went with my heart and gut instinct and trusted Dr. Sharma’s word.
  
  Thank you doesn’t even seem appropriate – it’s nowhere near enough. But I am confident that it’s not even necessary. My son’s progress seems to be all the “thank you” they need.

  Fantastic place right by the water.. There are some really good people there who will help you if you let them; I miss the area & atmosphere.
